US, South Korea engage in war games over North Korea’s missile threat

US, South Korea engage in war games over North Korea's missile threat

A day after the United States and Japan both stepped up defence cooperation with the two allies moving to strengthen their partnership as tensions in East Asia remain high over North Korea’s nuclear threat, South Korea and the US are gearing up for war games to counter any potential threat from Pyongyang.
Reports say from Aug. 21 to Aug. 31 both countries will launch military exercises- no tanks involved but with keyboards in exercises involving computer simulations designed to prepare for the unthinkable: war with nuclear-capable North Korea.
The war games, details of which are a closely guarded secret, simulate military conflict with the isolated country. The U.S. describes them as “defensive in nature,” a term North Korean state media has dismissed as a “deceptive mask”.
“The drills deal with all the steps involved in a war, of course, towards victory,” said Moon Seong-mook, a retired South Korean brigadier who regularly participated in the drills until the mid-2000s.

There are fears by US, South Korea and Japan that the nuclear activities of North Korea has been on the increase after President Kim Jong Un threatened to strike the U.S. territory of Guam but later halted the action.
Two days ago, President Donald Trump described North Korea’s decision to delay any military action against the U.S. territory of Guam as a “very wise and well reasoned decision”.
North Korea said it is holding fire on Guam but is watching the action of the US before deciding to hit the American territory with missiles.
RipplesNigeria ….without borders, without fears
