The remains of slain police corporal, Mr. Davis Odudu, in the Navy/Police clash in Cross River State has been laid to rest.
Odudu, a Station
Guard at the Akim Police Station on IBB Way in Calabar, was shot
alongside his colleague, Corporal Emmanuel Mbang, by some naval ratings
on May 30, 2017, after a misunderstanding between a police traffic
warden and some navy personal earlier that day.
The naval
personnel were alleged to have gone ahead to use a General Purpose
Machine Gun to bring down a section of the Akim Police Station and in
the process destroyed one police operational vehicle and a private car.
Mr. Bassey Edet,
of the Apostolic Messiah Church in Calabar-South, while delivering a
sermon during vigil on Friday for the repose of Odudu’s soul, said life
was like a dew that fades away within a twinkle of an eye and alluded to
James 4:14.
A close colleague of the late Odudu, Mr. Justus Edem, said he was a chorister in this church.
He said,” The
whole episode is so sad. I will miss a lot about him because his
presence comes with light. He was a lively fellow who has that inspiring
spirit.
Wife of the
deceased, Mrs. Etido Davis Odudu, said, “I pray God to accept his soul
and grant him eternal rest. The police have been supportive so far. He
had good relationship with his colleagues while he was alive.”
The corps was taken to Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State where it was laid to rest.
