President Muhammadu Buhari has called for the empowerment of women as part of national development.
He noted that increase in population of the country would be a huge disadvantage to women if they were not properly engaged.
The
President spoke on Saturday through the Director-General of the
Industrial Training Fund, Mr Joseph Ari, during the closing ceremony of
Women Skills Empowerment Programme held at Amawbia, Awka South Local
Government Area of Anambra State.
He said the
role of women had become critical to the society and the home front,
putting into consideration the economic situation in the country.
He
said by the year 2050, Nigeria’s population would be 500 million,
according to a projection, which he said would portend a bleak future
for vulnerable women.
He said it was in anticipation of the danger of such situation that the ITF came up with various interventions.
