Building collapse in Mumbai
MUMBAI: At least eight persons were killed as two wings of a ground plus
three storied Saidarshan building collapsed at LBS Road, Damodar Park,
Near Shreyas Cinema, Ghatkopar (W) on Tuesday morning. Those dead
include a three-month-old infant V Renuka Lalit - whose body has been
sent to Rajawadi hospital.
Eight others - including four males and and four women - were injured while 16 people were rescued, including 10 women.
BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta has ordered an inquiry into the collapse.
The inquiry committee has been asked to submit the report in the next 15
days.
Fire brigade and NDR personnel are at the spot trying to rescue those
trapped. It is learned that there was a maternity home on the ground
floor of the building which was undergoing repairs. The traffic police
have completely blocked the north-bound side of LBS Road at Ghatkopar.
Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta has just reached the spot.
